Charles Ketcham

Charles Ketcham has been connected with the Gurdjieff Work and has been playing this music for many years. He is a conductor by profession, having conducted many of the major orchestras in the United States, including the Pittsburgh Symphony, the Dallas Symphony, the St. Louis Symphony, the Colorado Symphony, the Portland Symphony, the Utah Symphony and the San Diego Symphony. He has also conducted orchestras in France (the Radio Orchestra of Lille), Italy, Holland, and Denmark (Aalborg).
His most recent appearances have been with world-renowned Philharmonia of London, the Russian National Orchestra at Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow, the Park City International Music Festival, the Juilliard Orchestra, and the Munich Symphony Orchestra where he made recordings for several episodes of the "Indiana Jones" film series.
Mr. Ketcham is considered one of the leading interpreters of the Gurdjieff/ de Hartmann music. Along with Linda Daniel Spitz and Laurence Rosenthal, he worked for several years directly with Jeanne de Salzmann, Gurdjieff’s successor, to gather together from assorted manuscripts the definitive four-volume edition of this music (published by Schott), which includes sacred hymns, Asian dances and melodies, and music related to Tibet and the Middle East. Along with Ms. Spitz and Mr. Rosenthal, Mr. Ketcham recorded the Complete Gurdjieff/de Hartmann Piano Music in a four-volume CD set (released by Wergo Schallplatten).
In April, 2014, Mr. Ketcham released the first album in a series of the complete Piano Music of Gurdjieff / de Hartmann entitled: In Search of the Sacred.
Charles Ketcham has conducted many of the major orchestras in the United States, including the Pittsburgh Symphony, the Dallas Symphony, the St. Louis Symphony, and the Denver Symphony. He has held the positions of Resident conductor with the Utah Symphony and the San Diego Symphony as well as Music Director of the San Diego Master Chorale and Principle Conductor of Ballet West and principle guest conductor of the Utah Opera.
Mr. Ketcham, over the past 20 years, has given concerts of the piano music of Gurdjieff/de Hartmann in Toronto, San Francisco, Berkeley, and various cities in Europe and South America, as well as in Boulder in 2000.
